Sega is looking to capitalize on the recent success of Streets of Rage 4 and the upcoming Yakuza: Like a Dragon. In celebration of Sega’s 60th Anniversary, Sega’s releasing Streets of Kamurocho. Streets of Kamurosha is a mashup of Streets of Rage 2 and the Yakuza series to play through a classic beat ’em up action game. Considering the unique nature of Streets of Kamurocho, Sega is only making it available for a limited time. It can be picked up for free on Steam between October 17 and October 19 at 10:00 am PT.
The game is set during the events of the original Yakuza and Yakuza Kiwami. The Tojo Clan’s Third Chairman has been killed and it’s up to Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima to clean up the streets. They’ll have to beat up all manner of Yakuza who stand in their way before they’re able to bring about a new peace. Players may even recognize some of the Kamurocho environments from Yakuza as they play through the game.
As for features, Streets of Kamurocho is relatively thin. This is just a special experience that Sega decided to put together for its anniversary, after all. As such, the game is confirmed to not have online multiplayer. It does allow for local co-op, though. And while there are only two characters to play as to start, Kiryu and Majima, a screenshot from the character select menu hints that there may be a third character to play as, too.
As previously mentioned, Sega is only going to make Streets of Kamurocho available for a limited time. It unlocks on Steam on October 17 and will be available until October 21 at 10:00 am PT. Once it’s unlocked, it’s kept permanently on the user’s account. But if someone misses the window of opportunity, it won’t be available again. Luckily, it’s free, so there’s no reason not to pick it up.
Streets of Kamurocho releases October 17 on PC.
