The hotly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 is just about a month away from its release date, after a long development cycle and more than a few delays. But Cyberpunk 2077 has gone gold and will be making its November 19 release date. To celebrate the game’s release, legendary hip-hop duo Run the Jewels will be streaming a music video for the game at this year’s Adult Swim Festival.
Run the Jewels is an award-winning supergroup consisting of rapper Killer Mike, who made his debut on Outkast’s hit album Stankonia, and rapper and producer El-P, who has produced for rappers such as Aesop Rock. The two are actually no strangers to the video game world, as the duo were immortalized as playable characters in 2016’s Gears of War 4. That is not to mention the fact that Run the Jewels has also been featured on the soundtracks for over a dozen different video games, including multiple Need for Speed games, Watch Dogs 2, Battlefield Hardline, and sports games for the NBA, MLB, UFC, and FIFA.
Yesterday the Adult Swim network’s Twitter account posted a video featuring RTJ announcing that a music video made for Cyberpunk 2077 will be premiering as part of Adult Swim Festival 2020. The festival takes place November 13-14 and will feature performances by Swedish popstar Robyn and heavy metal band Mastodon, as well as live streams for Rick and Morty, The Eric Andre Show, and Toonami.
It was not specified whether the song for the music video will be in-fact be something new RTJ wrote exclusively for Cyberpunk 2077, but it sounds likely given that the rap duo was announced to be working on the soundtrack at last year’s Game Awards, alongside artists like A$AP Rocky, Grimes, and famed electric cellist Tina Guo.
While millions of people are excited for Cyberpunk 2077, there are a lot of fans and people inside the games industry that are frustrated over the news that the game’s development involved an extensive amount of crunch time. Many developers from inside CD Projekt Red have been anonymously cited as having to work long 6-day weeks for months on end, only to still have the game be delayed again and again.
Some of the developers cited poor management not properly allocating enough resources, time, or manpower to accomplish what needed to be done to create such a massive game on time. There have been some conflicting reports about the 6-day work weeks being agreed upon by the team, but the fact remains that crunch is still a large problem faced by the video game industry as a whole and played at least some part in Cyberpunk 2077‘s development.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases November 19 for PC, PS4, Stadia and Xbox One, with dedicated releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S planned.
