For various reasons, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is quickly becoming one of Nintendo’s most anticipated upcoming games. Players have been shown a lot, but there’s still plenty they don’t know about Age of Calamity and can’t wait to find out.
There are a lot of reasons to be excited for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, mostly because it appeals to just about everyone. The game provides extra backstory for Breath of the Wild, which has earned universal acclaim. It also serves as a follow up to the first Hyrule Warriors. While the first game had potential, some felt it didn’t follow through with it as far as possible. Now a new chance has been given to explore the crossover between Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors gameplay, and it looks like this will be a more extensive game. That’s why the latest trailer is so intriguing.
Many players will be more familiar with Breath of the Wild than Dynasty Warriors going into Age of Calamity, and seeing it marry concepts from the two games is a point of interest for many. It’s well known at this point that Age of Calamity will use Breath of the Wild‘s map, which will be integrated into the war against Calamity Ganon. What wasn’t known until recently however is that some features of that map will return as well. As seen in the game’s latest trailer, Koroks will return, as will their big brother Hestu.
In Breath of the Wild, Koroks hid themselves all over the map and handed out Deku Nuts as prizes for finding them. The trailer shows a Korok appearing from a broken box, so it looks like the hiding mechanic is still in place. Hestu was the character player delivered the Nuts to, and in exchange, he would expand their inventory. Now Hestu is back with fully voice acted lines. Considering the fan love towards Hestu, he’s just one more reason to be excited about Age of Calamity.
While Hestu’s role in the story is not shown, it’s not hard to guess. In all likelihood the Deku Nut system will make a return and Hestu will return to his old role. Unfortunately he’s not confirmed as a Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity playable character yet, but fans can still hold out hope for using Hestu’s legendary maracas as weapons.
If by some miracle Hestu does emerge as a playable character, it’s worth speculating how he would fight. Also, since Link can fight the other Champions in Age of Calamity, one wonders what his prize would be from defeating Hestu. Only time will tell what Hestu brings to the table, but whatever it is, he’ll probably be cheery about it.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity releases November 20th for Nintendo Switch.
