Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Getting Halloween Changes

Infinity Ward recently teased big additions for Halloween in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone, and the developer certainly seems to be delivering on that promise. With Warzone receiving a special Haunting of Verdansk event to celebrate Halloween, Modern Warfare players are getting an event called All Hallow’s Eve that brings some spooky redesigns of multiplayer maps and character models.

Players will be able to explore the All Hallow’s Eve content with their overpowered JAK-12 shotguns in tow, starting with classic modes like Domination and Kill Confirmed. Domination will see the addition of “scarecrows on Domination points instead of flags,” a clever redesign that adds to the game’s new Halloween theme. Kill Confirmed, on the other hand, will see players collecting floating skulls as opposed to dog tags.

The All Hallow’s Eve brings new content such as the heavily teased Jigsaw outfit pack and new modes like Sniper Only and Onslaughter, which sees the addition of a pumpkin-headed Juggernaut to the game. The pumpkin mechanic extends to every mode, however, including Modern Warfare’s gunfight and ground war options. Intriguingly, these pumpkin heads are not purely cosmetic.

When Modern Warfare players go on killstreaks during All Hallow’s Eve, they will gain the huge orange heads and see them change as their streak continues. The jack-o-lantern first appears at three kills, with the head being set on fire if the player reaches a killstreak of ten. As described in the official Call of Duty blog post detailing the new additions, this is not just a cosmetic change. If the enemy team is “lighting up the lobby with their flaming pumpkin head,” players will know which enemy is on a big streak and can prioritize taking them out.

Giving the fun cosmetic change an actual function is a smart touch by Infinity Ward, and Modern Warfare players can experience the pumpkin heads and other Halloween changes themselves starting October 20th. While there are likely going to be plenty of Modern Warfare memes regarding the addition of the silly orange heads and horror movie characters, the Halloween update seems packed with plenty of new content for Call of Duty fans.

For players that prefer the battle royale action of Call of Duty: Warzone over Modern Warfare’s multiplayer offering, the addition of Zombie Royale to Warzone should prove exciting. With Warzone Zombies now official, and playable soon, fans of CoD Zombies should have something to hold them over until the classic mode returns in Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
