Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone players are in for a treat now that The Haunting of Verdansk event has officially been revealed. The Halloween event brings zombies to Call of Duty: Warzone, spooky costumes to the shop, and jack-o-lantern heads in Modern Warfare. All of this starts October 20 and runs until November 3, so players need to hit the ground running.
One of the biggest additions with this event is night mode for Warzone. With only the light of a full moon, players will need to bring Thermal scopes and Cold-Blooded to properly battle in the darkness. These nighttime matches make the game feel like a brand-new Warzone map, but that isn’t all. A ventriloquist doll, the spirit of a killer with a chainsaw, and even a ghost train may be found around the map if players believe the ghost stories.
Warzone will also see a new loot system of Trick or Treat Supply Boxes. Loot boxes may contain treats that grant players one of 16 new blueprints or tricks that contain a scare. If a player manages to collect all 16 of these treats—which include a cleaver melee weapon and a new Assault Rifle—they can unlock the Pumpkin Punisher Legendary Assault Rifle blueprint. There will also be a Zombie Royale mode in Warzone, where dead players can use spooky abilities to come back to life.
The store will be packed to the brim from this update. There is a SAW bundle that includes an Assault Rifle, a Shotgun, a Cargo Truck skin, tricycle Charm, and Billy skin for Morte. One noteworthy item is The Phlebotomizer, the terrifying new Warzone throwing knife that drills into enemies. There is also a Texas Chainsaw Massacre bundle that features a Leatherface skin for Velikan and a new blueprint for an LMG that can be wielded like a chainsaw.
There will be plenty of spooky matches in Modern Warfare with the new jack-o-lantern feature. When a player gets three kills in a single life, their head will turn into a creepy pumpkin. At 10 kills without dying, this pumpkin will burst into flame. In addition, Domination points will be scarecrows and Kill Confirmed tags will be skulls.
Finally, Modern Warfare will get two new game modes for a limited time. The Onslaughter mode will spawn a Juggernaut suit somewhere on the map for teams to fight over. In the spirit of the season, this Juggernaut will come with a pumpkin head attached. There will also be a Snipers Only mode, which is a basic Team Deathmatch variant but with pre-built sniper loadouts. While this mode isn’t particularly spooky, it seems there is plenty of other Halloween features throughout Modern Warfare and Warzone to more than make up for it.
