Video games running at 4K resolution with 60 frames per second or higher is a mainstream feature for current and next-gen gaming platforms. However, a recent video shows the popular Horizon Zero Dawn running at the higher 8K resolution.
While 8K resolution isn’t exactly mainstream, some gaming systems such as the Xbox Series X will support it. The video displays Horizon Zero Dawn running at 8K resolution compared to the current 4K resolution most games tend to support. It is part of a series of videos released by gaming YouTuber Bang4BuckPC Gamer on his channel showing the game in the higher resolution.
The series of videos show off Horizon Zero Dawn as well as other popular games including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Final Fantasy 15, and Crysis 3 with Nvidia’s upscaled graphics card. Each title is given their own video to display the 8K resolution and frame-rates in action and show off the power of Nvidia’s 8K graphics card. Bang4Buck does show his PC specs in the video’s description to show what exactly he was using to run and capture the video.
The footage shows the three games running on the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090, the world’s first major 8K gaming GPU and the graphical performance it provides. On the Horizon Zero Dawn video, Bang4Buck applies the necessary changes to run the game at 8K with 30 FPS then dives right into gameplay from there. He shows off the new visual resolution playing as Aloy as he shows her running, swimming, and fighting the game’s robotic enemies with little to no errors.
There are some dips below 30 FPS in the middle of the video but nothing serious as it returns back to normal. Bang4BuckPC Gamer decides to see how it holds up in a challenging encounter with more difficult enemies. During the combat there are some noticeable drops in frame rates but nothing too significant as the gaming YouTuber notes it’s still playable even when the frame rates dip. He sums up his experience as being a fascinating one seeing the game on those high quality settings compared to how Horizon Zero Dawn 4K resolution on the PlayStation Pro.
In the other videos, he makes similar comments when playing the other games at 8K and notes the sharp graphics while mentioning the occasional frame rate drops here and there. His videos show The Witcher 3 looks great at 8K as does Final Fantasy 15 and Crysis 3. Throughout the videos, the gaming YouTuber shows off the 8K resolution’s graphical improvements on the High and Ultra settings at 30 FPS with similar and stunning results.
The videos don’t showcase any noticeable problems while showing the incredible detail of the games in both cutscenes and regular action. Nvidia’s 8K gaming GPU displays incredible graphical power and it shows how the gaming industry is already making headway towards a higher visual and graphic resolution for games.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is available now.
