The demo for Pikmin 3 Deluxe was released back in early October and has since gotten many in the gaming community excited for the upcoming port of the popular Wii U title. It’s been well over seven years since Pikmin 3 first released, and now the Switch port will allow a plethora of new people to experience Pikmin for the first time. While the demo itself has a lot to offer on its own, one user has managed to access a whole entire segment that was not intended for players to get to in the demo.
As previously mentioned, Pikmin 3 initially released on the Wii U back in 2013 and was the first new Pikmin title to come out since 2004. Weirdly enough, Pikmin 3 was actually taken off the Wii U e-shop for a period of time but was quickly put back up.
The demo for Pikmin 3 Deluxe has quite a large amount of content already, which gives players a decent idea of what to expect from the rest of the game. However, one user by the name of APerson13 has managed to glitch the demo into unlocking additional content that is otherwise not featured by going through a series of glitches that unlock previously inaccessible terrain.
APerson13 access the area around the five-minute mark and goes on to fight the game’s second boss, the Vehemoth Phosbat. Presumably, there was supposed to be an additional Pikmin 3 side story that unlocks after beating the boss, but due to some missing game files not included in the demo, it just causes the game to crash.
In any case, it’s impressive that someone was not only able to reach this point in the demo, but the fact that the boss was actually playable when it wasn’t intended to be. Given how much variance there is in terms of Pikmin abilities and colors, it seems likely that someone would be able to unlock this area, but not without a great deal of effort and time.
It will be nice when Pikmin 3 Deluxe finally releases. Outside of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pikmin hasn’t exactly been featured on any sort of Nintendo platform within the last several years. While this port wasn’t the fourth Pikmin installment that a lot of fans were likely looking forward to, it still gives others the chance to experience Pikmin in a whole new way and for some, the very first time.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe is set to launch on October 30th, 2020.
