New Xbox app now lets you play your games remotely on iOS devices

Xbox One remote play comes to iOS with the updated Xbox app.

Microsoft has rolled out the latest version of the Xbox app across Android and iOS. The updated version overhauls the app’s design, bringing it in line with the new console UI for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Many of the app’s features have been available in previous versions, but some arrive for the first time on iOS. One such addition is remote play support, which allows Xbox One owners to stream games they own to their iOS devices over the internet, or on the same network. This is separate from xCloud, which Microsoft has yet to get running on iOS.

Remote play essentially turns your console into a server, and it’s available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S games, but not Xbox 360 or original Xbox games playable in backwards compatibility. Other features include the ability to pre-download games on Xbox, even before you buy them. It also lets Xbox console owners manager their devices remotely, such as initiating an install or uploading captured screenshots and clips.

And, as you’d expect, you can use the app to chat with friends on Xbox and PC, either using text or voice.

For new console owners, the app offers a seamless way of setting up your new device remotely. You can download the app on Android and iOS at the links.
