As Twitch has steadily grown more popular over the years, fans have seen some of streaming’s biggest names team up with a host of notable celebrities. Ninja alone has hosted the likes of Drake and Travis Scott on his live streams before, while Soulja Boy, Terry Crews, and Snoop Dogg all have their own Twitch channels for fans to tune into.
The latest celebrity to feature on the platform is marginally different from the aforementioned names, however, with Twitch announcing that Borat will be going head to head with DrLupo in a stream later today. Dubbed as a “battle for global supremacy,” the stream will take place at 3PM PT and marks the streaming debut of “Kazakhstan’s biggest gamer.”
As many who have seen the character’s various appearances over the years will know, Borat is one of the more popular roles portrayed by Oscar-nominated comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. Known for his outlandish behavior and cringe-inducing public stunts, Cohen is merely days away from re-debuting the character in a sequel titled Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. It will stand as the first appearance of the character in an official capacity since 2006’s Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. No doubt the appearance alongside DrLupo will make for a fun advertisement for the upcoming sequel, which looks to center around the upcoming elections.
Considering that characters like DrDisRespect have grown immensely popular on streaming services over the years, there’s every chance that Borat will make for a hilarious host when streaming later today. The character has popped up on live events before, although mostly on chat shows or other more formal media events. Seeing Borat take to a new platform will be a huge moment for longtime fans of Cohen’s antics, with the setting sure to bring out the improvisational comedy that makes all of his characters so notorious.
As for the film itself, Borat 2 looks to get Cohen back to doing what he does best: embarrassing himself in public settings. Much like the last film, it seems this iteration will once again focus on Borat interacting with real people unaware that they’re being filmed, as the comedian forces them into increasingly bizarre situations. Cohen allegedly even put his life on the line several times while filming the sequel, supposedly wearing a bulletproof vest on set in case his interactions with the public turned violent.
