With Halo Infinite delayed to 2021, Xbox Series X doesn’t have much in the way of next-gen console exclusives. However, the next-gen version of the upcoming Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be one such game, available for Xbox Series X months before its PS5 version. To highlight that fact, Sega has released a new Yakuza: Like a Dragon trailer that mocks generic next-gen gaming trailers and showcases the title’s bizarre sense of humor.
The Yakuza: Like a Dragon next-gen trailer highlights the game’s “breathtaking visuals” and “blazing fast speeds,” with the latter achieved through a kart racing mini-game. Yakuza: Like a Dragon‘s “immersive roleplaying” is highlighted next, showing a scene of adult men dressed as infants with diapers and pacifiers in their mouths, wiggling on the floor while being attended to by what appears to be a day care worker.
Then, perhaps mocking the infamous “giant enemy crabs” line used to promote the PS3 back in the day, Yakuza: Like a Dragon boasts about its next-gen crustacean AI. Other features are also given the spotlight, including “cutting-edge hairstyles” and “highly shareable shenanigans.” With the Xbox Series X controller’s new Share button, it will actually be easier than ever before to share clips from Yakuza and other Series X games.
The new Yakuza: Like a Dragon trailer also gives fans a look at the various costumes they will be able to wear in the game, as well as the strange characters they will meet along the way. Yakuza: Like a Dragon‘s turn-based combat is also shown off a bit, so fans have a better idea of what to expect from the minute-to-minute gameplay.
The key theme to the new Yakuza: Like a Dragon trailer appears to be “variety,” as it’s clear the game will give players all kinds of things to do. And the trailer didn’t even scratch the surface of all players will get to do in the game. For example, Yakuza: Like a Dragon also has karaoke mini-games that play similarly to mainstream music/rhythm games, and that’s just one of the additional features players will be able to partake in when the game launches next month.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon being an Xbox Series X launch title boosts its profile considerably, but even without that distinction, the game is shaping up to be rather impressive. Whether or not it lives up to the high bar set by previous Yakuza games remains to be seen, but fans will find out come the Xbox Series X launch.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon launches November 10 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The PS5 version launches March 2, 2021.
