A New ‘Space Jam 2’ Sneaker Debuted Over The Weekend

Space Jam 2 still hardly feels like a reality. The sequel to the ‘90s classic starring Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes has finished filming and is currently in post-production for its 2021 release date, but it still feels like such a fever dream of a movie that accepting it as truth is going to be hard until the trailer drops. However, concrete evidence of potentially the greatest film of all time’s existence began to drop in advance of NBA All-Star Weekend. We’ve already covered the first official Space Jam 2 sneaker in the form of the LeBron 17 ‘MonStars’ as well as its follow-up, the LeBron 17 Low ‘Tune Squad’, which pays homage to Bugs Bunny and the OG Dream Team.

But being All-Star Weekend, the biggest sneaker weekend of the year, Nike and LeBron had a surprise in store for us. In the second half of the game LeBron came out laced up in a third Space Jam 2 colorway – this coming hot on the heels of the reveal of the ‘Tune Squad’ as well as the official Tune Squad and MonStars jerseys that will be worn in the film.

The LeBron 17 ‘Mr. Swackhammer’ made its debut this past weekend. The sneaker pays tribute to the Danny DeVito villain of the original film, the alien theme park mogul who looks to sign Michael Jordan into effective indentured servitude. While the original character is painted in some appropriately sickly green tones, the sneaker instead goes with a vibrant green colorway with speckles of MonStar jersey purple, pink, and orange throughout the upper. The lower is comprised of a bright teal sole and a purple Air Max bubble. It’s the tongue cover that takes on the sickly green of Swackhammer’s original skin tone, a fitting aesthetic homage to a less-than-aesthetically-pleasing villain.

The drop for the Swackhammer LeBron 17 is coming up quick – LeBron debuted the shoe last night and it looks like it’ll be dropping this Wednesday the 19th. Shortly afterwards the Low ‘Tune Squad’ will be hitting stores and apps on the 28th. Both sneakers will be available via the SNKRS app – where you can currently still pick up a pair of the original purple MonStars as well. The jerseys sold out pretty quickly when they dropped last week but you can find them on resale sites and in brick and mortar Foot Locker locations if you wanna get geared up for the film’s release significantly in advance.

Every time one of these drops has hit we’ve said that it seems like it’ll be all (folks) for now, and every time we’re wrong. So rather than act like we know what we’re talking about, let’s just say this: it looks like new Space Jam 2 sneakers will be on their way, probably sooner rather than later. Prepare yourselves accordingly. It’s time to slam.
