The Indie Megabooth will be going away for a bit.
Indie Megabooth founder Kelly Wallick has announced that, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the showcase will be winding down. The Indie Megabooth, of course, relies on in-person events like PAX and EGX, and those have so far been cancelled.
Staff will stay on for the remainder of the month, but the Indie Megabooth is being sunset until this crisis is over.
“After nine years of working on and building the IMB, it was a difficult and disappointing decision to make. Realistically though, we’re a very small team and this situation is bigger than us,” Wallick wrote.
But before IMB hibernates, it’s teaming up with Steam to host a massive sale. The Going Away Sale will be available May 5-12 and feature over 100 games. Developers whose games are included in the sale are free to give back some of the profits to IMB on a ‘pay what you want’ revenue share.
You can also directly support the IMB through this Paypal link. The funds will be used for maintenance, to take care of remaining financial obligations, and to support the staff in this transition.
“I’ve poured my heart and soul into building this and am constantly humbled and honored by our community and the games industry which has been so welcoming and supportive,” Wallick added.
“Although this is really sad, I want to celebrate all the good we were able to do together and the impact we all had on the indie scene as it was expanding and changing over the last decade.”
