Niantic launches Pokemon Go remote raiding during self-isolation

This morning Niantic announced that starting today, Pokemon Go remote raiding will be made possible for players during the self-isolation period.

The news comes in the wake of fans seeking crafty alternatives for conventional raiding – for example, a bunch of Italian players discovered a way to obtain Raid rewards without leaving the house. Given that raids are a fundamental part of the Pokemon Go player experience, remote raiding allows trainers all over the world to play their favourite game almost as if things were normal at the moment.

As an added bonus, Niantic has announced a Pokemon Go remote raid pass celebration, during which Darkrai, Altered Forme Giratina, and Virizion will be available to encounter in Tier 5 Raids. This will come as a welcome addition to fans who were quickly growing sour with Landorus’ prevalence in the Tier 5 scene (seriously, just look at this one Reddit post below):

Yet another friendly reminder that Landorus is nearly impossible to catch and is a punishment more than a reward from Battle League from pokemongo

Naturally, the shiny odds for the new Tier 5 rotation have also been increased substantially, so if you’ve ever wanted a shiny Darkrai, now is your chance. The breakdown for each rotation is as follows (all times in PDT):

  • From Tuesday, April 28 at 1pm to Tuesday, May 5 at 1pm, Darkrai will be available in five-star raids
  • From Tuesday, May 5 at 1pm until Tuesday, May 12 at 1pm, Altered Forme Giratina will be available in five-star raids
  • From Tuesday, May 12 at 1pm until Tuesday, May 19 at 1pm, Virizion will be available in five-star raids

At the moment, that’s all the information that’s been made available in-game, with another notification breaking down the logistics of remote raiding likely to drop at launch later today.

This isn’t the only change that’s been made to Pokemon Go to increase its playability during quarantine. A little over two weeks ago Pokemon Go Battle League got an official leaderboard, whereas in wider Pokemon news it was announced that Pokemon Journeys: The Series would be dropping later this year.
