It started as a small enthusiast brand back in 2014, but OnePlus has quickly exploded into a mainstream hit that’s responsible for making some of the best Android smartphones every year. If you know you want to buy a OnePlus phone but aren’t sure which model to get, we’ve got a quick list to help you decide which one is right for you!
Best of the best
OnePlus 8 Pro
Staff pick
With the OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus finally released a phone without holding back a single feature. All of the OnePlus essentials are here, such as a gorgeous 120Hz display, Snapdragon 865 processor, a huge 4,510 mAh battery, and up to 12GB of RAM. The 8 Pro has the best camera setup we’ve ever seen on a OnePlus device, in addition to 30W wireless charging and an official IP68 dust/water resistance rating.
Familiar formula
OnePlus 8
If you like what the OnePlus 8 Pro has to offer but just can’t justify its steep price, it’s worth considering the regular OnePlus 8 instead. The display is lowered to a 90Hz refresh rate, but it still looks outstanding. You also miss out on wireless charging and that IP rating, but everything else is mostly the same. There’s still a Snapdragon 865, up to 12GB of RAM, and a very respectable 4,300 mAh battery.
Superb value
OnePlus 7T
It’s no longer the latest OnePlus phone on the market, but the OnePlus 7T still has a lot to offer. It has a 90Hz AMOLED display, three rear cameras that allow for a lot of photography opportunities, a fast in-screen fingerprint sensor, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855+ CPU paired with 8GB of RAM. The downside? If you want to buy the phone unlocked, you’ll need to get an international model with no U.S. warranty.
Cheapest there is
OnePlus 6T
Released in late-2018, the OnePlus 6T is still worth a look if you’re trying to spend as little as possible. Despite its age, the 6T has a lot to offer here in 2020. There’s a 6.41-inch AMOLED display, dual rear cameras, a Snapdragon 845 processor, and 8GB of RAM. You are missing out on the sleek 90Hz display tech, but if you want that sweet OnePlus experience while spending as little as possible, the 6T delivers.
Get the OnePlus that fits you best
If you were to ask us what the best overall OnePlus phone is, it shouldn’t be any secret that it’s the OnePlus 8 Pro. This is the first flagship from OnePlus where the company didn’t hold back any punches, and the end result is seriously impressive.
Right off the bat, the phone impresses with its 120Hz AMOLED display. It’s buttery smooth, super colorful, and has virtually no bezels save for the small hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. Around back, you’ll find the most impressive camera array in a OnePlus phone to-date. Pair all of that with outstanding performance, wireless charging, and an IP68 rating, and this is a flagship smartphone through and through. The price tag is quite high, but compared to something like a Galaxy S20, there’s still an argument to be made for its value proposition.
For folks that can’t stomach the price of the OnePlus 8 Pro, the regular OnePlus 8 delivers 80% of the same experience for considerably less money. The biggest disadvantages are the lack of wireless charging and that IP rating, but the rest of the experience is still excellent. The 90Hz display looks great, performance is every bit as fast, battery life is solid, and it has virtually the same design.
