Halo Infinite dev admits it has “work to do” on graphics

343 Industries has addressed fan feedback on Halo Infinite’s campaign reveal in a blog post which goes over the game’s fidelity, art style, and acknowledges the team still “has work to do.”

Halo Infinite studio 343 Industries has addressed fan feedback in a blog post, which reiterates what players saw in the campaign gameplay demo was a work-in-progress, but acknowledges it still has work to do on the game.

The blog post states that the team has heard the feedback regarding the visuals in the game’s campaign demo, and is aware of the debate regarding the “overall art style and visual fidelity.”

According to the blog post, as far as styling, the team was aiming for a more “classic” art style.

“Based on our learnings from Halo 4, Halo 5, and Halo Wars 2 – along with strong community feedback – we decided to shift back towards the legacy aesthetics that defined the original trilogy,” states 343 in the blog post.

“With Halo Infinite, we’re returning to a more ‘classic’ art style which was a key message going back to the very first reveal that garnered enthusiastic and positive responses. This translates to a more vibrant palette, “cleaner” models and objects with less “noise”, though it doesn’t mean less detail. While we appreciate this may not be everyone’s personal preference, we stand by this decision and are happy to see it resonating with so many fans around the world.”

Visual fidelity and the negative feedback surrounding “characters and objects appearing flat, simplistic and plastic-like,” was also addressed. So was feedback regarding the game’s lighting appearing to feel “dull and flat,” with object pop-in.

“We’ve read your comments, we’ve seen the homemade examples of retouched content, and yes we’ve heard the Digital Foundry assessments.

“In many ways, we are in agreement here – we do have work to do to address some of these areas and raise the level of fidelity and overall presentation for the final game.”

The post also confirms the campaign build shown in the gameplay demo was an early “work-in-progress” build, which still needed to be polished.

“While some of the feedback was expected and speaks to areas already in progress, other aspects of the feedback have brought new opportunities and considerations to light that the team is taking very seriously and working to assess.”

It goes on to state the team is working to address some of the feedback around “detail, clarity, and overall fidelity.” to make sure the game features a “beautiful world for players to explore” when the game releases.

The post also clarified that 4k 60fps is the target for the campaign on Xbox Series X. For PC users, there will be “plenty of settings that you can tweak to create the experience you want,” and more details will be provided in the coming months.

Halo Infinite is coming out this holiday on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
