Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Update Removes Maps from Some Playlists

In the early hours of the morning, Infinity Ward released an update to address the severe graphical bug in Warzone affecting a large number of players. The update had been fast-tracked as the bug made the game unplayable. While this issue was the main reason why the update was so essential, along with the fix to the graphics are a couple of changes to maps in Modern Warfare multiplayer.

Season 5 of Call of Duty has brought in a mixed bag of changes to gameplay in both Modern Warfare and Warzone. Some have been well-received, like the Modern Warfare playlist update bringing back Shoot the Ship, while others changes, like the nerf of the powerful Grau, have left players re-examining their weapon tier lists.

Tucked into Update 1.25 are a couple changes to map availability in certain game modes of Modern Warfare. It seems that as Infinity Ward has added more maps to the rotation, the unintended consequence of that has been that some maps have not been appearing in playlist rotations. When a game is continually updated, changes made can create new issues, like the new invisible vehicles and objects glitch in Warzone. With the map rotation in Modern Warfare, players have ended up playing the same maps over and over when other maps have gone untouched. The intention behind this latest update is to create better rotation, but to do so, some maps have been axed.

Headquarters – Removing Arklov Peak and Shipment

Kill Confirmed – Removing Aniyah Incursion

Cyber Attack – Removing Aniyah Incursion

Hardpoint – Removing Piccadilly and Aniyah Incursion

Search and Destroy – Removing Rust

The shake up doesn’t remove too much variety from the game, and is meant to create more variety in the rotation, but some of the removals have fans upset. It is difficult to please all players, whether it is map changes, or the weapon nerfs and buffs in Modern Warfare, there will always be push back.

The update is making an attempt to improve the overall experience, and while the game does feel like a work in progress at times, that same feeling means there could always be an exciting change on the horizon. For instance, fans are excited to learn more about Season 5 operator Velikan, who is set to drop soon.

With better map rotation, players will be less likely to get locked into playing the same maps again and again. If a few maps are lost temporarily to make this happen, it seems like a good deal.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
