Infinity Ward has released a new update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the Warzone battle royale overnight. The update mainly addresses bugs and other issues that have cropped up since Season 5 launched a couple of weeks ago, but the download size is not equal across all platforms. On PS4, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update download size is 1.2GB, and on PC, it’s 1.83GB (or 0.88GB for free-to-play players). However, on Xbox One, the Modern Warfare update file size is a staggering 66.3GB.
Infinity Ward has offered an explanation as to why the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has such a massive download when the PC and PS4 downloads are comparatively much smaller. According to Infinity Ward, the developers encountered a bug with the patch delivery process on Xbox, and so now Xbox One users have to re-download many of the files that they already have. Infinity Ward says that it is working with Microsoft to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.
While Xbox One gamers have to deal with a massive Modern Warfare update this weekend, the bright side is that it’s not going to increase their overall file size. After downloading the update, the Modern Warfare file size on Xbox One will be about 183GB, and Warzone-only gamers will have a 99.5GB file size. There are ways to delete certain Modern Warfare files to free up hard drive space if players are hurting for it, so fans should keep that in mind as well.
For those wondering what the update actually does, it fixes some major bugs and other issues that have been plaguing the game since the Season 5 launch, mainly in regards to Warzone. This includes the Warzone gun texture glitch, the Play Again option not working, an ascender bug in Downtown, and an issue where the Common AUG was invisible.
In terms of the standard Modern Warfare multiplayer, the update doesn’t make any big changes, but it has removed some maps from playlist rotations. Arklov Peak and Shipment have been removed from Headquarters, Aniyah Incursion has been removed from Kill Confirmed, Cyber Attack, and Hardpoint, and Piccadilly has been removed from Hardpoint as well. Meanwhile, Rust has been removed from the Search and Destroy playlist, which is probably for the best as many online have voiced the opinion that Rust is just not a great map for the Search and Destroy-style gameplay.
More Call of Duty: Modern Warfare updates will be coming sooner rather than later. Infinity Ward typically releases a new update every Tuesday, and with the Call of Duty 2020 teases going on, one has to imagine that next week’s update could very well see some more hints added to Warzone.
Here are the full patch notes.
GENERAL FIXES:
- Fix for weapon models (sights and weapons picked up) corrupting on screen
- Fix for an error that could occur when selecting “Play Again” option in Warzone
- Fixed a bug where players could use the rope ascender through a closed door in Downtown
- Fixed an issue where the world model of the Common AUG was appearing invisible in Warzone
- The increased map counts in our playlists caused some maps to not appear in playlist rotations. To help them appear more regularly, we’re removing the following maps from each mode listed below:
- Headquarters – Removing Arklov Peak and Shipment
- Kill Confirmed -Removing Aniyah Incursion
- Cyber Attack – Removing Aniyah Incursion
- Hardpoint – Removing Piccadilly and Aniyah Incursion
- Search and Destroy – Removing Rust
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
