Pokémon Snap: 10 Tips To Snapping The Best Shot | Game Rant

The Pokémon franchise has been one of Nintendo’s most popular sources of entertainment for decades now. It’s been amazing to witness how Pokémon has evolved over the years, whether it’s the mainline series, the trading card game, or even the many anime series that have come out of the video games.

The Pokémon franchise hasn’t taken too many giant risks over the years, but the Nintendo 64’s Pokémon Snap remains one of the series’ weirder, but beloved, spin-offs. It’s a novel idea to capture Pokémon on film, rather than in PokéBalls, but there are many different strategies available to guarantee that players’ pictures are as interesting as possible.

10 Take Pictures While The Pokemon Are Posing

A major factor in the score that Professor Oak awards at the end of each level is the pose category. Rare Pokémon are exciting to encounter, but it’s also important to depict them doing entertaining behavior. An average pose will rack up at least 1000 points, but some will earn much more than that.

Various Pokémon will perform special, unique gestures at certain point on courses, while other poses are only possible through the use of food or other support items. One of the highest pose scores comes from catching a picture of Jigglypuff while she’s singing.

9 Try Feeding The Pokemon

In Pokémon Snap the best tools that a photographer has are going to be their camera and their patience, but there are still some items that don’t betray the trade and can help create some more exciting photos. Players can throw apples out to Pokémon, which will result in some unexpected behavior.

Sometimes food will allow Pokémon to let down their guards and get closer to the camera, but in other situations it will cause several Pokémon to feud with one another, or even work together. A simple item allows huge insight on the habits of Pokémon.

8 Catch Mew On Film

Pokémon Snap isn’t the longest game, but the final challenge involves summoning Mew and proving the rare Pokémon’s existence. At the time, Mew was the most elusive Pokémon in existence and while it’s clear that getting a picture of Mew is beneficial, it will also lead to an excellent photo, by default.

There are ways to properly grab Mew’s attention via food or other tricks, but any picture at any of the Pokémon will result in an additional 2500 points, which will make a Mew photo easily one of the best in a player’s collection.

7 Make Use Of The PokéFlute

A lot of photography is powerful because it captures creatures in their natural habitats without interference. Some beautiful Pokémon can be created from this, but there’s nothing wrong with playing around with nature to try to create something more entertaining.

The PokéFlute is an item that can be easy to overlook, but making sweet music with it will result in some Pokémon erupting in playful dance. The PokéFlute should be experimented with all Pokémon and it’s an easy way to add some liveliness to any photo.

6 Don’t Stop Experimenting With Nature

It’s a delight in Pokémon Snap when engaging creatures with food or an item causes a unique set of behavior to play out. However, sometimes these acts are just the first step in an even longer sequence and players won’t figure this out unless they continue to experiment and mess with nature. The rarest photo in the game involves a special “Flying Pikachu.”

Players need to knock a Pikachu out of a Zubat’s grasp, but then play the PokéFlute to cause an Articuno egg to hatch. Then, if players turn around, Articuno will reappear with Pikachu now on his back.

5 Capture Evolutions On Camera

There were 151 Pokémon upon the time of Pokémon Snap’s release, but there are only 63 Pokémon that are featured in the game. Many of these are evolved Pokémon, but some can actually be pushed to evolve through certain circumstances, which is a major prize to catch on camera.

Different events will lead to Pokémon evolutions, whether it’s the incorporation of food, Pester Balls, or making sure certain Pokemon interact together, like in the case of Dugtrio, Magneton, and Slowbro. Professor Oak loves to see this beautiful process caught on film.

4 Sometimes It’s Good To Rush

Pokémon Snap is a title that rewards patience and there are some wonderful photos that are possible when players stay back and don’t overdue things with their approach to photography. Pokémon Snap is on rails, but the speed of the vehicle tram can be sped up by holding down “R.”

Sometimes there are sequences of events from Pokémon where it’s advantageous to go faster to catch up with them and frame a photo in a better way. If players only use the stock speed then they’ll be restricted with some of the possible photos that they can achieve.

3 Take Advantage Of Special Stage Bonuses

The importance of the pose category shouldn’t be underestimated and the key to the best pictures and highest scores revolves around taking advantage of that. However, some Pokémon actions are so atypical that they not only award a high pose score, but Professor Oak will throw in an additional Pokémon-specific bonus on top of it.

This is the best way to seriously boost a picture’s worth in major ways and so rituals like Graveler’s group dance, two Magmar fighting over food, or a surfing Pikachu should be capitalized on.

2 Pester Balls Can Be A Vital Tool

In the Pokémon franchise, PokéBalls are typically the bane of the creatures’ existence and they’re a reminder of the captured nature that many Pokémon live under. Pokémon Snap introduces Pester Balls, which are an alternative that don’t capture Pokémon and instead just mildly annoy them.

Experimentation with Pester Balls is another way to catch Pokémon performing rare acts that wouldn’t be otherwise possible. It’s also worth pointing out that Pester Balls can cause an easy pose score since any Pokémon’s stunned or knocked out expression will still technically qualify.

1 Different Songs Will Garner Different Results

The PokéFlute is a vital item for players to capture some lively and exciting photos. It’s an optional tool a lot of the time, but in the case of a problematic Snorlax, the PokéFlute serves a crucial function. Any song from the PokeFlute will work, but it’s the third song that works the best and will actually give a higher score in a photo.

This example can be experimented with elsewhere and some Pokémon will respond more positively to the different tunes that can be played on the PokéFlute.
