Rogue Company’s major August Update may have been pushed to next week, but developer Hi-Rez Studios is giving fans a new limited-time mode to make up for the delay.
In “Extraction,” Rogue Company‘s new LTM, two teams drop in and fight for control of a single objective on the map. The mode is similar to Demolition, only instead of fighting to arm multiple sites, the two teams must fight over a single neutral site. Once one team activates the objective by hacking a terminal, they must hold off attacks from the enemy team until a timer runs out. However, the opposing team can still clutch a win by hacking into the terminal before the end of the countdown.
To make the stakes higher, each round of extraction is single elimination. This paves another path to victory, as a team can also win by simply eliminating all of the opposing team. The single objective is sure to encourage intense close-combat gameplay, so it looks like fans have something worthwhile to hold themselves over until the August update releases.
Extraction is available until the August update becomes available on Monday, August 17. The update is the first of three planned phases of new content that was recently revealed by Hi-Rez via a content roadmap.
Phase 1, which was supposed to release this past week but was delayed, will feature a new map, customizations options, and penalties for players who desert matches. A new surrender feature similar to Valorant’s surrender option, which allows teams who are short players because of desertion to surrender and end the game, will also be included in the update.
While Rogue Company is still in closed beta testing, the game has seen a rise in popularity in recent weeks. Dr Disrespect, a well-known streamer, recently added to the hype when he announced that he working on a Rogue Company map called The Arena. Since it is still in closed testing, there are only two ways to play Rogue Company. Players can either watch Twitch streams and hope to get a beta key, or they can purchase one of the game’s packages, which range in price from $14.99 to $59.99.
The hero-shooter game offers console players a similar experience to titles such as Valorant and Counter-Strike. In fact, Rogue Company appears to fill a specific niche for consoles, as it is the only game that promises Counter-Strike style gameplay with hero-shooter tropes and sensibilities. That should give Rogue Company a competitive edge when it is made free to play later this year.
Rogue Company is in development for PC, Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
