Sometimes a video game crossover can present itself from completely out of left field, like Terry Bogard joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The end result is wonderful, but it may be something fans just weren’t expecting. Other times a mashup can sound so perfect that fans wonder why they haven’t thought of it before, and this may be the case of some gorgeous video game artwork that was just uploaded online.
The Dark Souls titles are regarded as some of the most beautiful and dark video games in the industry. The dichotomy of grime and horror with an aesthetic that is remarkably pleasing is something that cannot be understated. In a very specific way, Dark Souls could be compared to Hollow Knight. The indie darling is absolutely gorgeous, with an art style that is somehow both depressing and uplifting, gritty but cute. Creating artwork of a Dark Souls and Hollow Knight crossover seems too perfect, and that’s what the YouTube channel Drawfee Show recently did.
Drawfee Show is a channel on YouTube that makes artistic creations of ideas from fans. In an upload that recently went live, the artists who are a part of the show created mashup pieces of Dark Souls and Hollow Knight. The two games don’t only share similarities in being some of the hardest video games in recent memory, but the art style meshes together perfectly.
Fans have been creating amazing artwork of Dark Souls ever since its release, which was almost ten years ago. This work created by Drawfree Show is certainly a fresh take on the games. Some of the art looks like it belongs in Dark Souls, but has Hollow Knight characters or vibes. Other art looks like it was pulled right out of Hollow Knight itself, but with Dark Souls-like enemies.
Fans are still waiting for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Hollow Knight was regarded as a near-perfect game, so the developers have a high bar they must hit. There are many features that fans hope will be a part of Hollow Knight Silksong, but beautiful artwork is a given. The trailers have shown that that area shouldn’t be a concern.
The Dark Souls games are the favorite for many of the souls-like followers, and the Demon Souls Remake points to the possibility of Dark Souls remake as well. The Demon Souls Remake looks better than many completely new games, and much of that has to do with the art style of all of the games from that series. Whether its Hollow Knight or the Souls games, the art in the titles are part of what make them so special.
