Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Made Secret Change to Gunfight

Whenever Infinity Ward releases a massive update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, there’s always some things that don’t make it into the patch notes. The Modern Warfare Season 5 update had a number of secret changes, with fans still discovering all of them. One secret Modern Warfare Season 5 change that has flown under the radar somewhat is a change made to the game’s popular Gunfight mode.

Since the Season 5 updateCall of Duty: Modern Warfare players have been able to ping enemies and locations in Gunfight by pressing “up” on the d-pad. This is exactly how pinging works in the Warzone battle royale, with the feature seemingly lifted from the BR portion of the game. Users have also reported that they can now ping in the Spec Ops co-op mode as well.

It’s unclear why Infinity Ward didn’t mention Gunfight pinging in the patch notes, but it seems like it will be a popular addition. Gunfight requires a lot of communication from players, which isn’t always easy to do when they don’t have a mic handy or are uncomfortable talking to strangers. This way Modern Warfare players can provide important information to their teammates without having to actually talk to them. And even if they are already talking to their teammates, pinging offers extra visual clues that can help players out and make them aware of exact enemy locations.

Any Call of Duty fans curious to see how pinging changes up Gunfight can check it out right now in the ongoing Gunfight 3v3 playlist. Standard Gunfight is unavailable at the time of this writing, but Gunfight 3v3 provides a very similar experience, albeit with more players on the battlefield. This version of Gunfight 3v3 also has unique weapon blueprints for players to use as well, which should help make matches that much more exciting.

Infinity Ward tends to release new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare updates on a weekly basis, so it’s possible standard Gunfight or a different variant will be introduced this coming Tuesday. Regardless, though, Call of Duty fans can expect pinging to stay in Gunfight.

It remains to be seen what the next Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update will entail, but it’s possible that it will be an especially big update this week. Activision has been building to the Call of Duty 2020 reveal through Warzone, and it’s looking like the big reveal could finally take place as early as Wednesday. What this means for Warzone and Modern Warfare as a whole remains to be seen, but it should be an exciting week for fans of the franchise.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
