With the Xbox Series X slated to launch later this year, the question on most fans’ minds is precisely when the next-generation console is slated to hit shelves. With many expecting Microsoft’s newest hardware to hit some time around November, it seems the company will be looking to clear up the release date soon, with many believing that the console manufacturer would be holding a press conference later this month to reveal all about the Xbox Series X’s launch.
However, according to notoriously accurate industry insider Shinobi602, this widely toted August reveal event may just have been pushed back a month. Taking to ResetEra, the popular figure addressed a question about the recent delay of Halo Infinite, talking about how it seems Microsoft will delay its August event schedule due to this big blow to its launch lineup.
Discussing Infinite’s delay, Shinobi claims it was “a necessary choice given the state of the game and reactions to what was shown,” going on to point out that “many games, especially huge AAA games, really come together in the last months of development leading up to launch. The pandemic’s thrown a massive wrench into all of that.” Moving away from the game itself and more into how its delay will affect the Series X, Shinobi highlights that Infinite was a pillar for the console’s launch, claiming “it’s not the *only* selling point, but a big one. The decision to delay was no doubt a very, very difficult one to make.”
He proceeds to also share his admiration for the decision, noting how many publishers often push developers to force a game into a finished state in the lead up to launch. “It took some balls to call this by the studio,” he tells users, making the point that the team definitely had to take the brunt of some ticked off executives to make it happen. However, he caps off his thought by reminding viewers to “expect news about other Xbox stuff that’s been going around recently to come a bit later too.” With the most heavily rumored Xbox Series X event allegedly slated for this month being an announcement of the console’s price and release date, it seems fans should expect this at a later date.
As for exactly when Microsoft is going to hold its next big conference, it seems Shinobi believes it’ll be in September, responding to another user claiming “stuff that was planned for this month pushed to next month.” An additional month to get its affairs in order is only natural for Microsoft, who has made a significant shift in plans by delaying Halo Infinite. Hopefully, this next conference can put them back on track for a huge console launch.
