Ryan Reynolds Launches New Streaming Service But It Only Has One Movie

Ryan Reynolds took to his official Twitter account to announce the launch of a new streaming service as part of Mint Mobile’s marketing campaign. However, the new streaming service’s library is limited to the action-comedy Foolproof in which Reynolds starred opposite Kristin Booth.

Released in October 2003, Foolproof featured Reynolds in the role of Kevin, one of the three members of a theoretical group that simulates heists as a game. However, when a famous criminal successfully pull off a jewelry robbery using their plans, he blackmails the team into designing and carrying out a heist to steal $20 million in bonds from a bank. Produced on a budget of $7,800,000, Foolproof ended up being released in 204 theatres across Canada.

Last year, Reynolds bought an ownership stake in Mint Mobile, and now the actor has introduced the mobile wireless provider’s streaming service Mint Mobile+, which solely presents all 80 minutes of 2003’s Foolproof in DVD quality. The streaming service is free to access for everyone and even groups Foolproof into multiple categories, including “Original Originals,” “Kind of Originals,” and “Unoriginal Originals,” and “Top 1o in the US.”

While Reynolds touted Mint Mobile+ as “the world’s most affordable streaming service” in his announcement post, the celebration was short-lived as his follow-up post indicated the platform may not be available for much longer. “Two minutes after launch and our crack data team has already determined Mint Mobile+ should probably be shut down by the weekend,” Reynolds wrote just three minutes after introducing Mint Mobile+ to his followers. The actor concluded his statement by saying Mint Mobile will go back to focusing on premium wireless. The debut of the streaming service is just Reynolds’ latest marketing endeavor following the inclusion of his Aviation Gin into a scene from Buried.

By now, fans of Reynolds are used to seeing the actor poke fun at himself and his lesser-known or critically lambasted projects. Just last month, Reynolds debuted his own cut of Green Lantern that was intended to improve the maligned superhero film, which meant only about 27 seconds of the movie remained.

Reynolds, who will next be seen in the video game film Free Guy, has been involved in a number of philanthropic endeavors as well. In early August, Reynolds provided details on the launch of his self-funded diversity initiative, which intends to create more opportunities for people of color by providing on-set work experience on his upcoming projects.

Free Guy will be released in theaters on December 11, 2020.
