Eager fans waiting for the next Batman game might not have to wait much longer. WB Games Montreal just posted a cryptic video to its Twitter page. The video has some clues about the next Batman game, but a link included in the tweet sends viewers to a website that seemingly has a countdown timer to the reveal. This new tweet begins an internet mystery fit for the great Dark Knight detective himself.
It has been over five years since Arkham Knight was released, and gamers have been waiting very eagerly for the next installment of the Batman franchise. For a while it looked like fans might not get another Batman game at all. The recent mysterious tweet points to August 18 to be the first big glimpse into what the future of Batman games looks like, and fans are already jumping to solve the riddles.
The tweet in question shows a strange 25 second video of some sort of cryptic message. Numbers flash around the screen, images appear for only a moment, and a symbol is slowly drawn and then removed in the center. It seems like the promotion team has taken a page out of Call of Duty’s book, because the internet has already discovered hidden codes and messages in the short video.
In terms of obvious reveal, it seems that previous rumors of a Court of Owls game are coming true. The first image that flashes in the video appears to be a large owl, likely indicating the fan favorite villain group that made its appearance in the New 52. The tweet also links to a website, r3dakt3d, that contains the message: “We have been expecting you 8/18.” A countdown timer is at the bottom, seemingly counting down until 10am EST August 18.
It seems that fans were immediately up to the challenge of this cryptic teaser, as some parts of it have already been decoded. Jordan Oloman posted to Twitter information found in the source code of the mysterious website. A secret code unlocked a map that looks straight out of an Arkham game. The rest of the source code appears to point to radio numbers that can unlock the trailer over the next few days. This suggests a four-day riddle game that will end on Friday August 21 with the actual trailer.
More information is sure to be released over the next few days as gamers all over the world set themselves to cracking this riddle. There was fear that, with Rocksteady leaving the Arkham games to work on a Suicide Squad game, the Batman saga would die out. Now with this fun challenge, it seems the Dark Knight is as alive as ever before.
No release date has been revealed for the new Batman game.
