Civilization 6: August Update Release Date and New Features Confirmed

At the end of June, Firaxis Games released a free game update to Civilization 6, which made a variety of changes to Religious Beliefs, kicked off Red Death Season 2, and more. Now, with August coming to a close, the developer is ready to launch yet another free update for Civ 6, and details on some of what will be included in this patch as well as its release date have recently been revealed.

To start, the Civilization 6 August 2020 update is set to go live on Thursday, August 27, and it will add two new features to this popular turn-based strategy game. The first of these features will give players the ability to select the Natural Wonders that have a chance of appearing in their games as they are creating them. While this will not guarantee that a fan’s desired Wonders will appear exactly where they want them to, it should allow them to encounter their favorite Natural Wonders in Civ 6 more often and completely avoid any of them that they strongly dislike.

The second new feature in the August 2020 update is a brand new game mode that will available to all Civ 6 players, even those without the Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm expansions, called Tech and Civic Shuffle Mode. As the name suggests, this game mode will randomize the position of all Techs and Civics while also concealing their identities until a player has learned the prerequisites. To note, all of the participants in a multiplayer match will receive the same randomized Tech and Civic trees in order maintain some semblance of balance.

This forthcoming patch does not only focus on new features, though, as it also contains a number of balance changes. In part these tweaks will focus on Civ 6‘s Gathering Storm expansion, with forest and jungle fires burning for longer after the update. It is indicated that this will cause fires to end more frequently with forests and jungles being fully burned out, thus reducing the occurrence of endless fires.

It is also said that the update will make some changes to the effects provided by the Government Plaza, a specialty District that was added as part of Civilization 6‘s Rise and Fall expansion. At the time of writing, Firaxis has not provided any specific details about what those changes will be, but fans do not have to wait very long before experiencing them, and the other content described above, for themselves.

Civilization 6 is available for iOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
