Crytek’s upcoming Crysis Remastered, an HD updated release of the original Crysis on current-gen consoles, still doesn’t have an official release date confirmed by the developer. However, a PlayStation affiliated YouTube channel might have given away when Crytek intends to launch the title on PS4, and possibly on other platforms as well.
The “leaked” release date for Crysis Remastered comes from the YouTube channel PlayStation Access, a UK based, Sony affiliated channel that highlights the company’s new releases. Fans of the channel would recognize PlayStation Access for being where Sony announces free PS Plus games, as well as the weekly Friday Features program.
According to a new video highlighting new games coming out the week of August 18, 2020, PlayStation Access included Crysis Remastered as a title coming to PS4 on Friday, August 21st. However, Crytek still hasn’t confirmed or officially announced that release date either at the time the video released or at the time of this writing. This comes after Crysis Remastered was delayed from its original release in July, with no announcements on when the title will become available after the original date passed.
At the moment, Crysis Remastered is available on Switch, launching in most countries on its original release date of July 23 on the handheld system, and coming to other regions like Japan much more recently. So this does still beg the question of whether or not the PS4 release this Friday will coincide with the PC and Xbox One releases, which currently have no announced release dates. It’s likely that the versions on the other two platforms will release at the same time, but with even the PS4 release date remaining unconfirmed by Crytek, nothing can be said for sure at the moment.
If this release date does turn out to be correct, then this might be one of the most unconventional ways to announce a games release, especially with only a few days before launch. There have been rumors that Crysis Remastered is almost finished, but to be ready to release in only a few days, with no official announcements from either the developer or the game’s social accounts, is a step more than just a rare occurrence. At this point, if fans can expect to see the title coming to digital storefronts this Friday, then Crytek is going to want to begin working on marketing quickly to let players know that one of the company’s most popular franchises is almost on modern systems.
Crysis Remastered is available now on Switch, and is possibly set to release on August 21st, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
