Fall Guys’ success has driven many brands to attempt to associate with the game on Twitter. The game has become so dominate on social media that even Konami has gotten in on the fun, tweeting out a Metal Gear Solid costume for the Fall Guys Bean.
In response to the overwhelming amount of @’s the game’s official Twitter has received regarding unique bean costumes, Mediatonic has come up with a 2 week-long contest, with the winner having a bean costume put in the game.
The contest is pretty straightforward, brands are required to respond to the contest Tweet with the amount of money that would be donated to a charity that Mediatonic has chosen. The highest bidding amount wins the content and after some legal work and an official donation, gets the costume put into the game. Mediatonic has stated the company reserves the right to refuse a donation of a brand it deems offensive.
The charity chosen, Special Effect, is a UK-based charity focusing on helping those with physical disabilities play video games. Special Effect works with developers creating game control devices for those in need. In addition, the charity helps developers make games created more accessible. In a similar manner, AbleGamers, an American non-profit organization, has teamed up with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds to help spread the word on the need for accessibility in video games to account gamers with special needs.
Brands attempting to associate with Fall Guys should come as no surprise, the game has had an incredible amount of success with over 8 million players already playing the game on the PlayStation 4. Fall Guys’ success on the console is thanks in part to the game being a part of August’s free PlayStation Plus games. The insane number of players caused the servers to go down several times during the first week though now servers have become more stable.
The initial server issues caused some uproar from fans on social media, resulting in some players review bombing the game on Metacritic. Once the issues were resolved, developer Mediatonic publicly apologized for the issues on Twitter and gave away a free legendary Prickles skin and some currency to those affected by the outage,
Meanwhile, Fall Guys has become a fan favorite among streamers on both Twitch and YouTube. Popular streamers PewDiePie and Dr Disrespect have begun streaming Fall Guys together on YouTube, with Dr Disrespect making his long-awaited return to streaming after taking a brief hiatus, following his ban on Twitch.
Fall Guys is available now on PC and PlayStation 4
