Ghost of Tsushima’s Legends expansion won’t have any microtransactions

The upcoming Legends expansion for Ghost of Tsushima won’t nickle and dime players.

Sucker Punch dropped a surprise announcement yesterday with the reveal of Legends, a free expansion coming to Ghost of Tsushima sometime this fall.

Among other things, Legends adds online co-op for up to four players, complete with new story missions, a horde mode and a raid coming sometime after launch. Though the free content is welcome, it wasn’t the direction fans expected the studio to go with DLC.

Shortly after its reveal, many suggested Legends exists because Sony wanted a way to introduce microtransactions into Ghost of Tsushima. Multiplayer-enabled games are typically where microtransactions are found, and it’s where they often generate most of the money.

Fortunately, this isn’t the case. Sucker Punch confirmed to IGN that Legends won’t introduce any microtransactions, big or small.

“There are no microtransactions in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and we have absolutely no plans to add them. All of the content is unlocked through play,” the developer said in a statement.

Given its online nature, playing the content of Legends will, of course, require an active PlayStation Plus subscription, but that’s standard across the board on PS4. More details about Legends will be revealed closer to launch.
