Beginning yesterday, WB Montreal’s newest take on the Batman series has been all but confirmed after a series of cryptic teasers on a site titled R3DAKT3D. Alongside highlighting some logos from the game, including one that sparked further speculation that the title would indeed feature the Court of Owls, it seems the website also held a reference to a trailer that would drop on August 21 – a day before WB Montreal’s conference at DC FanDome.
However, fans are already beginning to unveil some new secrets from the cryptic site, with players discovering a new image on R3DAKT3D that appears to offer a first look at the game’s map. The method for finding the image is actually somewhat interesting, with players having to go onto the site, click and hold a button, and input the code 761.
Upon doing so, the site then gives players a distorted image, telling them to download or share it. The image is of the map, with the first glimpse alone seeming to hint that the game could take place in the same version of Gotham City shown in Arkham Knight. Although it’s purely speculation, many have been quick to point out that the bridge in the top left corner looks remarkably similar to those connecting the city in Rocksteady’s final take on the series.
As for the rest of the image, there are definitely some notable aspects to point out. Most interestingly, it very distinctly brandishes a waypoint at its center, although what it’s pointing to is still something of a mystery. Perhaps it marks the hideout of one of the gangs referenced in the teaser images, or maybe alludes to a part of the R3DAKT3D site that’ll be unveiled in the days to come. Regardless, it’s definitely an interesting new wrinkle to the growing mystery of the next game in the Batman franchise.
For those not caught up with WB Montreal’s long-awaited Batman game, the company has been working on a sequel to Arkham Knight for the last few years. Leaking online through various different sources, it seems the game has been through numerous iterations, including one that saw Damian Wayne take up the role of Batman. However, the studio’s most recent take on the license is allegedly finally on its way, with WB Montreal announcing it’ll unveil its longstanding project on August 22. Although rumors have differed on what the game exactly is, it seems the studio’s myriad of teases will be followed up with a full explanation later this week.
