Only a few weeks ago, Red Dead Online received its Naturalist update which, aside from the usual patches and fixes, brought in a bunch of new features, including an additional role for players – the animal-loving Naturalist.
Since then, Rockstar has continued to add on to the update, such as including new Legendary animals for players to hunt. This week, however, sees the inclusion of a mode that’s all about skill: the Hardcore Series.
What this does is provide new variations of the Spoils of War, Most Wanted, Hostile Territory, and Overrun modes where there are no Ability Cards of consumables. Players must make do with their own gun and skill, making the Hardcore Series the perfect play for expert gunslingers to demonstrate their skills and attempt to take on equally skilled and challenging opponents.
This isn’t all, though. Two more Legendary animals will now be roaming the wilderness in Red Dead Online, or more specifically, Legendary Bucks. The first is the Legendary Mud Runner Buck, which is described as having an aggressive nature and can be found south of The Heartlands by Flat Iron Lake.
The second is the Legendary Snow Buck, which grazes near the Aurora Basin. However, it’s referred to as being fleet-footed, which suggests that it could be difficult to chase down if it knows it’s being tracked and takes off. The rewards for hunting them are worth it, with both offering 50% more XP and monetary payouts.
There is also a brand-new Free Roam Event where the only shooting of animals is done with a camera. In this event, players compete to earn the most points by snapping pictures of the animals in their natural habitat, with scores dependent on how close a player can get, the composition, and how many different kinds of animals get their picture taken. Rockstar adds that the best individual photo taken during each event will earn that player an unspecified reward.
A full breakdown of these new details can be found on Rockstar’s website, though it doesn’t appear to mention anything about new patches and fixes. Regular players have routinely criticized how buggy the game can be. In fact, the last update had to be rolled back due to it completely breaking portions of the game, such as causing towns to be completely devoid of NPCs.
The game has recently also been suffering from a severe hacker problem, with streamers in particular becoming victims due to these hackers posing as them to lure their audiences into a lobby just to kill them. Other hackers have purportedly been cheating and harassing other players as well.
Red Dead Online is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
