Resident Evil 8’s Gorilla Man Boss Fight May Actually Come From RE2

Rumors continue to swarm the internet regarding speculation of Resident Evil 8 and its dark plot and more folklorian horror aesthetics, including the inclusion of a monster known as “Gorilla-Man.”

Given that an abundance of Resident Evil 8 rumors turned out to be true previously, such as the inclusion of werewolves, the possibilities of taking on “Gorilla-Man” certainly seem highly plausible. The source of these rumors comes from our friends at Biohazard Declassified and thus seem reliable. If rumors are true, the Gorilla-Man would be a chained foe brandishing a large axe, with plenty of other foes brandishing smaller axes backing him up in a boss-fight against Ethan Winters.

While there is no information yet in order to determine whether the “Gorilla” in “Gorilla-Man” literally means a gorilla mammal of sorts, and not just a large and muscular humanoid, there are a few points worth addressing to suggest it may actually be based on the animal.

First, Capcom once had plans long ago to include a ape-based monster in Resident Evil 2. It is possible that “Gorilla-Man” could have been pulled out of the archives of Resident Evil 2 and is finally manifesting a version of itself in Resident Evil 8.

Capcom was originally supposed to include an enemy known as the Zombie Ape in Resident Evil 2, but it was ultimately rejected. The original plan included having these giant hulking beasts burst out of an Umbrella truck in the parking lot of Raccoon City’s police station, being intentional bio-weapons created by Umbrella, as opposed to accidental mutations of nearby animals from T-Virus contamination. One of its attacks was to show off an overhead hammer smash, which would fit well with an added axe in hand if revived for Resident Evil 8.

Furthermore, considering Resident Evil 8’s inclusion of werewolves likely entails concepts of human-wolf hybrids among mammal creatures, the theme seems ripe to also include other animal hybrids or creatures based on particular mammals, such as a gorilla. In general, the bio-weapon experiments in Resident Evil’s franchises have commonly explained themselves through means of strong bonding-principles between inter-species DNA.

This ultimately allows Capcom to tell believable stories of monstrous creatures with animistic and human origins. For example, the T-Virus allowed Umbrella to create Hunter creatures by combining human DNA with reptilian embryos, among other methods of creating various types of the Hunter creature through fusing elements of these two species. This includes both Resident Evil’s Hunter Gamma and Hunter Beta, which were possibly some of Umbrella’s most diabolical experiments in Resident Evil.

There are also elements of human mutations with insect-themed origins, properties, and aesthetics, such as the enemies in Resident Evil 6 which were infected by Resident Evil’s C-Virus. The C-Virus was created using queen ant DNA and combining it with the T-Veronica virus and G-Virus.

Given that Umbrella is all but confirmed to be in Resident Evil 8 in some form, given the logo’s presence in the trailer, it would not be surprising if Resident Evil 8’s creatures also follow past trends which focus on inter-species experimentation of sorts, including werewolves and, of course, “Gorilla Man.”

As Resident Evil 8 sets out for a 2021 release date, fans will have to just wait until these themes and ideas can be speculated on further, perhaps even with answers regarding Resident Evil 8. But if past patterns are any indication of truth regarding the credibility of many of these rumors, there is a lot to be excited about here in terms of potential.

Resident Evil 8 Village is set for a 2021 release for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
