The wait for news regarding Grand Theft Auto 6 has been arduous for fans of the series. Rumors have been circulating for quite some time that GTA 6’s location might be Vice City, and that may have just gotten even more likely.
There have been tons of leaks and rumors circulating around Grand Theft Auto 6, though many of those rumors point to the series making a return to Vice City. Now, the holding company of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Take-Two Interactive, has registered an internet domain called GTA Vice City Online.
Long time GTA fans know Vice City as the fourth overall title in the Grand Theft Auto series, though the games have not returned to Vice City since the 2006 PSP release, Vice City Stories. However, recent rumors surrounding GTA 6 point to Vice City being somehow involved with the game. While Rockstar and Take-Two have been radio silent on Grand Theft Auto 6, it seems a recent domain registered by Take-Two may point to a return to Vice City.
The domain in question was found by a Reddit user going by the name of cmputerguy, and clearly spells out ‘GTA Vice City Online.’ Naturally, this has many fans speculating that the sixth entry in the series could be set in Vice City and have integrated online functionality as Grand Theft Auto 5 did with Grand Theft Auto Online. Grand Theft Auto Online is still massively successful and still receiving major content updates like the recent Summer update surrounding super yachts.
Of course, the original GTA: Vice City game did not feature an online mode so this domain likely points to something new at the very least. GTA: Vice City is well over a decade old, so it would theoretically be enough time for the series to make a return to the iconic city with a new and updated spin on the overall aesthetic and design.
The map of Vice City had secret areas and hidden gems that took fans ages to uncover and explore, which helped make it many fans’ favorite setting in the series. Coming back to Vice City on next-generation hardware would be a treat.
Of course, this could simply be Take-Two trying to acquire domain’s related to the Grand Theft Auto series. However, considering how many rumors seem to circle Vice City, it wouldn’t be out of left field for GTA 6 to make a return to the iconic map in some way. Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date hasn’t been revealed, but hopefully, Rockstar is hard at work on the series’ next major installment.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is reportedly in development.
