DC FanDome Partially Delayed | Game Rant

Big news for fans of DC movies, comics, and games: the upcoming DC FanDome event, originally set for a 24 hour period filled with all sorts of news, reveals, and leaks, is now going to take place over two events. Recently announced by DC itself, FanDome will have a second event in mid-September where much of the customizable virtual experience will occur, while many of the big panels will still occur on August 22nd.

For those unaware, the DC FanDome event was meant to be a virtual convention featuring all things DC, from comics, to movies, to games and more, with big appearances from Hollywood stars and big-name companies alike. It would have featured both a selection of panels filled with news about the latest DC cinematic universe movies, as well as a virtual convention experience, where users could access DC’s website and make their own tour, picking and choosing what info appealed to them among the various wings of DC’s business. According to DC, audience demand left them no choice but to split up the event.

Basically this news means that the event is being partially delayed. While many of the big  panels will still be occurring on the 22nd, including the Snyder Cut, Wonder Woman 1984, and Flash panels,  other less pressing content, such as retrospectives, cast-reunions, and niche content are being pushed to September. Fans can at least rest easy knowing that any big news will still be arriving as expected, but the announcement is still a disappointment for those who may have more specific interests in DC’s various projects and less mainstream work.

Digital conventions and events are all the rage in the era of Covid-19, with many traditionally in-person events opting instead for a digital experience this year. Comic-Con@Home was a similar event, choosing to have participants and audience members join livestream events rather than traditional panels in a convention center. It seems to be working well as a safe and effective alternative to the usual conventions, allowing audiences to participate in real time and giving companies a chance to announce their projects to the biggest audience possible. In some ways, splitting DC FanDome makes sense, ensuring that the company can make all of its big announcements with as many viewers as possible, and preventing them from being distracted by smaller bits of news or an interactive virtual experience. Regardless, it is inconvenient for those who were looking forward to the more low-key events, which will have to wait until the second part of DC FanDome, launching September 12.

Head to DC Fandome’s official site to view the revised schedule.

DC FanDome will be viewable online at DC’s FanDome website on August 22, and September 12.
