This weekend’s going to be a big one for DC fans, as it is when DC FanDome will be taking place, a virtual event that will no doubt see a bunch of announcements made regarding upcoming comics, TV shows, films, and video games.
We’re already well aware of certain announcements that we can expect; namely the new Batman game from Warner Bros. Montreal and Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad title, both of which have been heavily teased as of late.
However, a look at the schedule revealed that a number of the panels clash with each other, meaning fans would be forced to miss out on certain panels they’d be interested in to attend another one.
This unsurprisingly generated a backlash, prompting DC to decide to split the event into two separate events. The first will still be taking place this Saturday on August 22nd, but is now titled DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes. It’s line-up will include most of the big announcements that were initially scheduled for that date, with the aforementioned Batman and Suicide Squad games being among them.
This event will be screened three times throughout the day, starting at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 3pm UK, but viewers should be warned that they can only watch it via the DC FanDome platform.
The second event, DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse, will take place next month on September 12th and operate much differently. Instead of providing a schedule of its own, DC will give viewers a customizable “menu” of programming, meaning everyone can create their own schedule and watch the panels they want to in any order. The menu can be viewed on the official website, but one will need to create a FanDome account to access it.
As far as other potential game announcements go, there is some hope that we’ll see a trailer for Injustice 3, a theory only further supported by the fact that Ed Boon, developer at Mortal Kombat and Injustice studio NetherRealm, will be making an appearance.
In related news, Rocksteady has come under fire recently, as it has been reported that it had failed to address complaints of sexual harassment and other inappropriate behaviour at the studio in 2018, which is believed to still be continuing to this day.
It did acknowledge receiving the complaints and has stated it will be creating new initiatives to handle workplace harassment, but it’s still far too early to tell whether this will generate any meaningful results or if it will have an effect on the Suicide Squad game.
DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes will take place on Saturday August 22nd.
