Ubisoft first launched the Far Cry series back in 2004, and it was critically acclaimed for its visual fidelity and gunplay. This massive fan response and love for the game has given it a life and turned it into a series with almost seven major titles, not including the expansions. Since the beginning, the series has been one known for its hardcore, fast-paced gunplay and brutal stealth.
That is why Ubisoft works hard into making each game different yet just as challenging. But, even still, there are weapons that are potentially so deadly that playing through the games becomes a cakewalk. Let’s take a look at the most overpowered weapons in the series so far.
7 AW50 Sniper Rifle (Far Cry)
The original Far Cry was launched in a time when games like it were rare. This was back in 2004 when Ubisoft and Crytek shocked the system by releasing this first-person masterpiece on PC.
Since then, the game has released on multiple platforms, including the first Xbox, PS3, and other modern consoles. The game has improved in visuals and framerate through its journey on various platforms, but one thing has remained the same: the most powerful gun, the AW50 Sniper Rifle.
6 AS50 (Far Cry 2)
Far Cry 2 was launched in 2008 for all major platforms of that time. This was a tentative title in terms of gameplay as well as the environment. The game no longer took place on an island. Instead, the players had to make their way through the malaria-ridden village of Africa.
It was a lot more realistic compared to the first game, heavily relying on factors such as wind, fire, and disease. However, it was quite similar to the first game in one way. The most potent weapon in the game was a sniper as well. There are other deadly weapons, such as grenade launchers, but the ammo count is dangerously low.
5 AMR (Far Cry 3)
Far Cry 3 was when a lot of new gamers got familiar with the series. This was due to the epic marketing of the game and the main villain, Vaas. The game took a turn from the realistic approach of Far Cry 2 to semi-arcade gunplay that heavily relied on stealth and silence vs. Rambo styled gameplay.
From this point onward, the guns didn’t matter in sheer power but rather the gameplay approach of the player. If a player wants a silent approach, anything with a silencer works. Going Rambo, anything like a shotgun works. But if we look despite all of that, one gun overpowers all—the AMR sniper rifle, which is a customized signature weapon.
4 GL-A87 (Far Cry 4)
Ubisoft took the players to visit the Himalayas in Far Cry 4 as the game took place in India. Almost everything that made Far Cry 3 good was present in this game and improved upon. There was a gripping villain, a cool open-world to explore, and a bunch of guns to use.
Similar to the previous game, this one also heavily relied on the play style than the specific weapon. But even with that, there’s one weapon in-game that buries hordes of enemies to the ground—the GL-A87 grenade launcher, which is an automatic grenade launcher.
3 Beasts (Far Cry Primal)
As Ubisoft explored various locations with the expansions of previous titles, with this game, they thought they’d explore timelines as well. Far Cry Primal takes place way back into history with primal animals and survival being the central concept of the game.
This was a huge turn from the ranged weapon-based combat to a strict melee or bow based gameplay. Like every game, this game also had its version of the grenade launcher, at least in terms of damage. And those are the gigantic beasts you can tame in the game—the best one being the sabertooth tiger.
2 SBS (Far Cry 5)
With Far Cry 5, Ubisoft took the game back to the old-school. By mixing the past few games and building a world with the best concepts available. This game is a lot more brutal than the others, and cleaning the areas is much harder, making skills a necessity.
There are plenty of ways to approach a mission, including vehicle-based combat or close up fighting. But even with the variety in place, one gun holds its own in the game. That is the SBS Shotgun, being one of the most potent close-mid range weapons in the game. Other than this, there’s grenades and snipers which work just as well.
1 Lucky Shot (Far Cry New Dawn)
Far Cry New Dawn isn’t an expansion but rather a spin-off and sequel to Far Cry 5‘s story. This game takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, which is similar to games such as Rage 2 or Mad Max. The game is set in the beautiful world of Hope County, with a couple of RPG styled changes implemented.
There are plenty of creative weapons in the game, that is fun to use and deadly. But one incredibly destructive weapon is Lucky Shot. It is a compound bow with insanely powerful attributes.
