Archery in Ghost of Tsushima plays as much or as little of a role as the player wants and, unlike stealth gameplay and open combat. is never absolutely required. That said, players that enjoy the game’s archery likely made great use of it, as the Concentration technique and Tadyori’s Armor can turn Jin into a killing machine in the hands of a skilled player. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends brings players together in two or four player co-op online, and the Hunter is one of four classes available at launch. She specializes in the use of a bow, and from the trailer, she seems quite skilled with it.
So far, Sucker Punch hasn’t revealed much information about Ghost of Tsushima: Legends aside from the reveal trailer and announcement post, so everything here is simply speculation. Not much is known about any of the four classes, but the Hunter in particular was shown quite a bit in the trailer. These predictions are based off careful analysis of the trailer and existing content within the main story of Ghost of Tsushima, but for any concrete information, fans will have to wait for an official announcement from Sucker Punch or Sony.
It’s not entirely clear yet what sorts of techniques the Hunter class will have available, but a good place to start looking is Jin’s archery techniques available in the base game. At the moment, there aren’t a lot of options when it comes to archery techniques, so it could be that the Hunter will have all of them. This means she could be able to use Concentration to slow time while aiming, although this would interact strangely in multiplayer, and should have access to the Longbow and Explosive Arrows. She may also have certain Evasion techniques and Evolving Tactics such as Far Hearing.
Astute fans will notice the tattered banner of clan Nagao and the Hunter’s bow also have the same design as the one gifted to Ishikawa Sensei (and later Jin) by Hirotsune Nagao, the last leader of that clan. This is all fitting given her aptitude for archery and clan Nagao’s fame for the Way of the Bow, and could point to her having similar abilities as those granted by Tadayori’s armor, who was also of Clan Nagao. This could allow her to maintain Concentration for longer after landing headshots and nock and reload arrows faster than other characters in Ghost of Tsushima‘s new co-op mode.
Carefully analyzing the trailer also reveals some possible abilities for the Hunter class in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Obviously she is equipped with a bow, but she does also have a sword equipped, meaning she’ll be capable of at least some level of melee combat, though she may not have access to all the stances and will likely need to rely on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends‘ Ronin and Samurai when it comes to open melee combat. She is shown to have a grappling hook alongside Ronin and Assassin, but other than that there isn’t much to go off of.
The Hunter’s supernatural technique shows her with a glowing, seemingly magical longbow. She pulls the string back all the way and then looses an arrow of light. This most likely will do heavy damage to any enemy it hits, and could end up having additional properties as well such as piercing or burning damage. Hunter will probably have other supernatural abilities as well, and these should make her the best of the four at taking out enemies from a distance. Unfortunately, nothing can be said with certainty until Sucker Punch reveals more information about the new game modes coming to Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends releases Fall 2020 for PS4.
