Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase featured a substantial amount of upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch, with some of those announced games releasing after the presentation. Among the surprises was the announcement of the indie darling Hypnospace Outlaw coming to the console in less than a week.
Hypnospace Outlaw is a ’90s internet simulator where the player is a Hypnospace Enforcer working for the Hypnospace Patrol Department. The player’s job is to monitor the internet for internet bullying, copyright infringement, and other bad uses of the internet. The player will have access to an email inbox for reports where they can download useful apps for their search.
In between shifts players can customize the desktop with an assortment of wallpapers, screen savers, and other useful tools. While downloading apps players can find fun GIFS and MIDI files but must keep a keen eye and avoid getting infected with adware or attacked by hackers. Hypnospace Outlaw is full of the ’90s aesthetic from top to bottom; the game is filled with colorful websites dedicated to bands, games and ’90s cartoons, all with terribly animated computer graphics cheesy fonts.
Interested players can download a demo for Hypnospace Outlaw currently available on the Nintendo Switch. Those who want to pre-purchase the game can get it with 25% off as Nintendo is running a large indie sale on the eshop. The sale includes other indie games announced at the showcase such as Raji: An Ancient Epic, Takeshi and Hiroshi, and Manifold Garden.
Hypnospace Outlaw will launch on Aug 27 for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.
