Currently, there are two major video game franchises asking fans to participate in lengthy puzzle-solving quests to, potentially, reveal upcoming games. Call of Duty is sending fans on a wild chase throughout Warzone and a cryptic website for more clues and information about whatever is happening with the series’ next game. Alongside Call of Duty’s wacky way of delivering information, WB Games Montreal is slow dripping information in various teasing tweets and a website of its own that is being pondered over by fans of the Batman Arkham games. Recently, fans may have discovered proof of a villain who may be set to appear in the newest Batman game.
At the time of writing, it has been 332 days since WB Games Montreal first started teasing its next game by tweeting very vague images for fans to dissect. Since that time, fans have been starved for more information from the developer about its game but WB Games Montreal remained silent up until this week. To hype up its game, WB Games Montreal released cryptic gifs on Twitter for fans to speculate over, as well as launching r3dakt3d.com where internet sleuths have been digging around for clues on the company’s upcoming title.
Over the course of the week, r3dakt3d.com is allowing fans to enter different access codes to unlock new teases for the upcoming Batman game. The most recent code fans can enter, unlocks a new picture showing a section of a map, assumably of Gotham City, with the words “FACE TWO FACE” written across it. This seems to be a pretty obvious reveal that Two-Face will be playing a role in WB Games Montreal’s upcoming title, rumored to be called Gotham Knights.
WB Games Montreal developed Batman: Arkham Origins which released in 2013 and the game served as a prequel to Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series. Two-Face appears in both Arkham City and Arkham Knight, however, he’s only referenced in Arkham Origins and doesn’t play a part in the game’s story at all outside of a newspaper mention of him. If WB Games Montreal’s next game is a follow up in some way to Arkham Origins, the rumored Gotham Knight game could explore how Harvey Dent transitioned into the split personality villain, Two-Face.
Two-Face isn’t the only character being teased for WB Games Montreal’s next Batman title, as a member of the Bat-family is being hinted at throughout the r3dakt3d teases. The codes that fans will be able to type in on the r3dakt3d website can be combined to match the barcode number for Detective Comics #359, which is the introduction of Batgirl (Barbara Gordon). This tease is leading fans to believe the circulating rumors of the next Batman Arkham game, which suggests that fans will be playing as multiple Bat-family characters this time.
Gotham Knights isn’t the only DC Superhero game that has started to tease an upcoming reveal. Rocksteady recently released a poster for its next game, titled Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Both Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game and WB Games Montreal’s new Batman title are slated to be revealed in some fashion this weekend during DC’s all-day fan event called DC FanDome.
The new Batman game is currently in development.
