Back in April, rumors started swirling that Ubisoft was preparing to launch a Prince of Persia remake, but when Ubisoft Forward came and went with no announcement, many fans lost hope. However, retail listings for a Prince of Persia remake have appeared online, fueling speculation that an announcement for the game is set to come sooner rather than later.
The Prince of Persia remake listings list the unannounced game for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, with no mention of PC or Xbox One versions. It also has a tentative release window of November 2020. Otherwise, there’s not a lot of information that fans can get from the listings. However, it seems unlikely that a Prince of Persia remake would skip PC and Xbox, and it’s also unlikely that it would release in the same month as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so fans should take this information with a grain of salt.
If Ubisoft is planning to announce a Prince of Persia remake for release later this year, perhaps the announcement will come at the next Ubisoft Forward event. For the uninitiated, it’s been confirmed that the next Ubisoft Forward will take place at some point in September, so it’s certainly within the realm of possibility.
It’s been a whopping 10 years since the last time a main series Prince of Persia game launched, with 2010’s The Forgotten Sands being the last time the series has seen a new entry. Since Prince of Persia was once one of Ubisoft’s top franchises, it’s always been a bit surprising that it has been left dormant.
Recently, Ubisoft has experimented with Prince of Persia VR experiences, but it has not announced any news on a possible new game in the series. And even if a new game in the series isn’t in the works, it’s safe to say that many fans would settle for a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, or even a remaster of the Sands of Time trilogy, but for modern platforms.
Whatever the case may be, Ubisoft enthusiasts should be sure to tune in to the next Ubisoft Forward event when it takes place in September. It’s quite possible, and perhaps even likely, that Prince of Persia will not have a presence at the event, but this retail leak means that it’s more of a possibility than it was before. Hopefully more information comes sooner rather than later, and fans can start looking forward to a new Prince of Persia adventure.
Prince of Persia is rumored to be in development.
