The build up to the new Call of Duty reveal has been a strange one. Starting with an odd video that has interrupted matches for Warzone players, the assumed “Cold War” game already carries a heavy air of mystery. Now the Twitter account ModernWarzone, which has often been correct about leaked information, seems to be teasing the upcoming game’s beta and release dates.
Call of Duty players have been incredibly busy over the last few weeks working on strange riddles and cryptic clues. An internet-wide cipher hunt has resulted in even more clues surrounding the next game. From secret bunkers in Warzone to strange messages in Black Ops 4, it seems like this game’s release is being built up to be full of secrets and espionage. If the theme is indeed Cold War, then this strange promotion for it is very fitting. It appears that the success of this cryptic campaign has even spread to other games, as the upcoming Batman game is sharing a similar riddle adventure.
The beta and release date clues come in the form of two Twitter posts by ModernWarzone. The first shows “September” with a mug of tea being filled. The second shows “November” with a series of dates. Out of these dates, the 14 is circled. Fans seem to agree over the theory that September is when the beta will be released, and then November 14 is the official game’s release. Latest Warzone clues have led players to believe certain Modern Warfare characters will return in the new game, so it will be interesting what information is officially revealed whenever the release date is given.
Many players think that the release will be announced inside Warzone itself, as many of the teasers and clues have appeared there. They even think they have figured out where the Call of Duty reveal will happen if that is the case. With the success of Warzone and the willingness of players to scour the map in search of clues, it would make sense to have some sort of official reveal inside the battle royale game.
In addition to the clues found in Warzone, there may have been one additional teaser that lead some fans to believe the map might get an upgrade. The teaser site for next Call of Duty includes what looks like a map on the back wall. Many believe this to be part of an additional area in the existing Verdansk map, rather than a new map entirely. Players will just have to wait and see when the game is officially set and the next era of Call of Duty is revealed.
Call of Duty 2020 is still in development.
