You won’t see any new PlayStation 5 gameplay or hardware features in this TV commercial, but will get a sense of the level of immersion Sony is trying to achieve with the new console’s tech. The actions and sound shown speak to the new controller and how the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback work. We keep hearing that a good example of how all of these elements come together is through the drawing of a bowstring, which we see in the ad.
In a blog post, Sony shares further insight about little moments in the commercial, and says the audio points to how PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech will deliver multi-directional sound.
Sony also provided examples of how the haptic feedback is being used for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The controller will tell the player which direction attacks are coming from. Morales’ Venom Punch attack also delivers a bio-electricity crack from the left side of the controller to the right.
Now we just need to know when we can get our hands on this controller and console and how much it will be. They can’t hold off on telling us these things for much longer. The proposed holiday launch is right around the corner.
