WB Montreal’s Batman Arkham game is set to be revealed this Saturday at DC Fandome, and the studio has been doing a great job of hyping up fans with daily teasers. Codes, maps, and scrambled images ultimately lead to character references, giving fans an idea of who will be in the game. Today’s teaser for the was no different.
While today’s message was not particularly astounding, as all it said was “the truth has been scrambled,” the decoded image posted by Twitter user James Sigfield may contain the biggest tease for the next Arkham game so far. This unscrambled picture features a pair of Owl talons, which seems like an obvious reference to the group of assassins employed by the Court of Owls.
Hinted to be the main antagonists of the game’s story many times, the Court of Owls is an illuminati-like group who secretly holds complete control over Gotham City. They know everything there is to know about Batman’s home, including his tragic origin story. This makes them a genuine threat, as they can torture Bruce Wayne mentally while beating down his alter ego physically. Think of the Talons as something like the Arkham Knight, but without any of the emotional baggage to hold them back.
The Court’s leaders do no fighting themselves, however, which leads to the importance of this teaser. The Talons are a group of undead assassins brainwashed by the Court, a combination that leaves them with no emotion or pain reflexes. They are as fast and skilled as Batman without the downsides of being human, making them an incredibly dangerous foe.
After the recent tease of a Two-Face appearance within the game, it is nice to see that WB Montreal’s Batman game will still be keeping its focus primarily on The Court of Owls. Two-Face is a great villain, but he has been seen numerous times in the past. The Court of Owls, however, have not had the chance to shine in any Batman game thus, making this game a breath of fresh air for Batman fans.
WB Montreal’s next Batman game has plenty of promise, as it has all the right pieces for success. The recent confirmation of Batgirl through these teases was already exciting, as the studio has already done a solid job with her in a standalone DLC for Arkham Knight. Today’s confirmation of the Talons only adds to the hype for the game, as pulling from Batman’s deep rogues gallery and doing something new gives WB Montreal the chance to blow its audience away with a story they may not know.
