Nvidia’s latest product line titled “RTX” is a set of graphic cards that makes real-time ray-tracing possible. All technical jargon aside, this technology means games can finally move ahead from the block of baked shadows and reflections to real shadows and reflections. Now naked eyes will not be able to figure out these differences in many recent titles because developers have mastered artificial lighting and shadows.

2 Needs Improvement: Superfluous Support

On the same side, RTX is terrible in terms of quality assurance. At least in titles that are just featuring the technology without a good reason. Nvidia’s ray-tracing is high tech, but a great tech is of no use if the game itself doesn’t need it.

Many developers are just collaborating and opting for this to be an added feature without really thinking about it. This is why there are games such as Quake RTX and a few others, where the involvement of RTX doesn’t do anything logical as it doesn’t contribute to visual art or gameplay features.

The best part of Nvidia’s RTX is the overall tech advancement. Newer games are said to be best optimized on SSDs. This means loading times would be less. Couple it up with real-time ray tracing, and you get a game experience that was genuinely not possible on the consoles or PCs before.

Developers will be able to forge huge open-worlds that look real, and it takes less than a second to fast travel in-between. All in all, RTX has a vast scope, and if used right can end up being a generation-defining feature.
