Red Dead Redemption 2 is Leaving Xbox Game Pass | Game Rant

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a huge hit with incredible sales and an engaged fan base. The cowboy-based open world, deep narrative, and fun shooting mechanics earned Read Dead Redemption 2 critical acclaim. With that in mind, many players were pleased when the AAA title came to Xbox Game Pass as it boosted the profile of the service and made it an increasingly wise financial investment. However, it seems that the game will be leaving the service this September, much to the disappointment of fans.

The Xbox Game Pass has a range of games and its variety as well as quality have largely impressed fans. In the future, it seems that the pass will be used to deliver Xbox Exclusives for free when they release, and because of this, many feel that the subscription service will be a key element in the next-generation of consoles. Unfortunately, the service will be losing Red Dead Redemption 2 although it is introducing other quality games in its stead.

On September 7 the game will leave the console and replacing it will be several games including Resident Evil 7. Some players will be disappointed that one of the most acclaimed titles on the series it leaving and it is unclear exactly why this is the case. It is most likely because the original contractual agreement has reached a timed clause or end and neither party could agree on a method of renewal. If this is the case then some players may be concerned about major titles other than Red Dead Redemption 2 leaving the service.

If the relationship with Rockstar Games is eroding then it may mean that Grand Theft Auto 5 will also leave the service. This would disappoint fans as the game is still hugely popular, yet there is also a strong possibility that the agreement that allowed Red Dead Redemption 2 to be available on the service has simply run its course. While the game may no longer be free with Xbox Game Pass, the Xbox Summer Sale is discounting Red Dead Redemption 2 so some players who have held off purchasing the title may be tempted to finally invest fully.

The nature of any subscription service means that titles come and go. The loss of Red Dead Redemption 2 will undoubtedly disappoint some fans but with the option to buy a range of titles at a discounted price through the Xbox Summer Sale and new games coming to Xbox Game Pass, there is still plenty on offer through the Xbox consoles. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how Xbox Game Pass continues to expand its roster.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for the PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
