Red Dead Redemption 2 Leak Hints At Big New Feature | Game Rant

Red Dead Redemption 2 players may be getting some more big news, not long after the disappointing reveal that RDR2 is leaving Xbox Game Pass in September.

A Twitter user and self-described “Rockstar enthusiast” known as @VideoTech_ took a dive into the July 28 Naturalist update files for Red Dead Redemption 2 and discovered a “new mention” that wasn’t present in the Moonshiner DLC. The text referenced Director Mode and blocked Jack Marston in this mode, leading the Twitter user to believe that Director Mode will be “likely” coming, but without Marston as a playable character.

Rockstar previously beefed up the Grand Theft Auto 5 experience with Director Mode, which lets any animal or character in the game be controlled by the player to make digital movies, like how a director tells actors where to go when filming. This idea excited a lot of people for its potential given to players to make unique and creative content, and it will no doubt inspire a lot of Red Dead Redemption 2 players for the same reasons.

With access to Director Mode, content creators will be able to create interesting character interactions in RDR2 that wouldn’t be possible in the main game. This would be a huge boost to the Machinima and digital movie-making communities within the Red Dead Redemption community as a whole, by giving a whole new range of options and tools to creators.

GTA 5 also had some characters unplayable in Director Mode, so it’s possible that Jack Marston won’t be the only unplayable character. As one commentator on the original tweet pointed out, many of the GTA 5 characters had “limitations” even while in Director Mode, so it follows that RDR2 will present a similar experience. Red Dead Redemption players watched Jack Marston grow up over the course of the two games, so many players that are attached to the character’s story may be disappointed that he likely wouldn’t be included in Director Mode.

Since this is just a leak, there’s still a lot of speculation that’s unconfirmed, although it does seem like people would be in favor of it coming to the game. It’s unclear whether this is coming in a future update or to next-gen consoles, although many comments on the original tweet are leaning toward the latter. Of course, Director Mode for RDR2 would also have to mean the Rockstar Editor would most likely need to come to the game, which hasn’t happened yet. Whether Director Mode comes sooner or later, it’s something many Red Dead Redemption fans would excited about.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for the PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
