Yesterday, Mediatonic dropped Saturday’s new skin in the highest-rated Fall Guys player’s account, but didn’t reveal who it was. The mystery persisted for nearly 20 hours until it was finally confirmed that DrLupo is indeed the so-called Fallen One, and the highest-rated Fall Guys player in the world. His reward was early access to the legendary P-Body skin, which is based on Valve’s hit puzzle game Portal 2.
DrLupo seemed genuinely shocked to find out that he is the Fallen One in Fall Guys. “Dude, Tim is going to be so mad,” he said, in reference to TimTheTatMan’s notorious Fall Guys losing streak. Lupo then equipped the P-Body skin on his character, and so if anyone sees a P-Body character running around in Fall Guys between now and tomorrow, it’s most likely DrLupo. However, the P-Body skin will be available to all Fall Guys players come Saturday, so DrLupo will only have it exclusively for a short time.
This stunt is just the latest clever marketing tactic that Fall Guys has employed to become one of the top online multiplayer games in the world right now. It all started with Fall Guys being free on PS Plus in an attempt to emulate Rocket League‘s success. After that, the Fall Guys social media accounts have been working overtime to promote the game, interacting with big name brands to spread the word about the unique battle royale game.
For example, Fall Guys has challenged some of the world’s top brands to donate to charity, with the highest donation getting their brand immortalized in Fall Guys with a special skin. Some of the world’s biggest gaming and non-gaming brands are participating, and it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top.
As long as Fall Guys is able to keep doing things like this, it should have no problem maintaining its popularity. The game’s unique twist on the battle royale genre ensures that it’s not being drowned out by the many shooter BRs out there and is able to carve out a niche of its own.
