Earl T. Kim provided the voice acting and motion capture work for Ghost of Tsushima‘s warrior monk Norio. The character makes his first in-game appearance at the beginning of Ghost of Tsushima‘s Act 2 and, by the end of the story, becomes one of Jin Sakai’s most trusted friends and allies.
Over on his Twitch channel, earlofsammitch, Earl Kim has been doing a playthrough of Ghost of Tsushima, and he recently reached the point where Norio first shows up on-screen. Kim enters the moment with laughter, making fun of himself by poking fun at the character. But as Nario’s debut plays out, it becomes apparent that this is a really special moment for Kim.
Norio certainly isn’t the first role Kim has performed in his career. He’s also made appearances in Shameless, The OA, and the television version of Training Day, and considering Ghost of Tsushima‘s record-breaking success, it’s hard to imagine that Kim won’t get more work in the future.
Still, making it in the entertainment industry is no small feat. Just getting one’s foot in the door can take years, and finding success after that isn’t a guarantee. With that in mind, as an actor, it must be pretty awesome to see yourself on-screen, no matter how many times you may have seen it before.
Kim isn’t the first Ghost of Tsushima actor to react to seeing himself in-game either. Daisuke Tsuji, the voice actor behind Jin Sakai, played through the game’s opening sequences on his Twitch channel “DiceK2G,” and he had a funny reaction to seeing his own butt when he made it to the game’s very first hot spring.
Kim is still doing a playthrough of Ghost of Tsushima over on his Twitch channel. He’s currently running through the game on Kurosawa Mode and the new Lethal Difficulty. He doesn’t seem to have an exact schedule for when he hops on, but he does frequently stream, jumping on the platform every few days.
Kim will likely play through the Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer update with Tsuji when it arrives this fall. The two of them promote one another in real life the same way Norio and Jin do in the game. They’re actually currently hosting a competition that will reward a launch copy of Ghost of Tsushima autographed by the two of them to an individual that sends them the best Haiku centered around Friendship, Community, and Camaraderie.
Ghost of Tsushima is on PS4.
