Hit Indie Game Spiritfarer Surprise-Launched for Stadia

Spiritfarer has been popping up all over the place this week. After surprise-launching for the Nintendo Switch and other platforms on Tuesday, the game has debuted today on one many fans might not even know it was being developed for: Google Stadia.

It’s only been a few days since it launched, but in that time the “cozy management game about dying” has proven to be quite a hit, with multiple critics praising Spiritfarer for the way its gameplay meshes with its heartfelt storytelling. This warm reception is something developer Thunder Lotus hyped in a press release accompanying the announcement of the Stadia launch, while also confirming that it’s currently working on “addressing some in-game stability issues and including fully localized text in all versions.”

“This has definitely been the most challenging launch in Thunder Lotus’ history!” said studio founder Will Dube. “It’s great to see that people are loving Spiritfarer, and we’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished so far. But our fans have also been great at communicating the issues they’ve encountered so far in the game, and we want them to know that we hear them too! We’re working hard to ensure that the Spiritfarer experience is top notch, on all systems.”

The number of ways players can now access Spirtifarer is actually rather impressive for a newly-launched indie game. Aside from Stadia, players can play it from all main consoles, Xbox Game Pass, and multiple PC game stores including Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG. That’s a lot of platforms for Thunder Lotus to manage the game on, but the increased positive exposure seems to be making up for it.

Spiritfarer is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
