Man Plays Kart Racing Game Using Tesla Car As Controller in Viral Video

Throughout recent years, Elon Musk and his clean energy-focused car brand Tesla have had a weird amount of integration with the video game scene. Not only has Tesla shown up in the strangest places, with CD Projekt Red even joking that it might integrate the company’s widely mocked Tesla Cybertruck into Cyberpunk 2077, but its also seen several hints towards games being fully playable within the car.

The last few months alone have seen Musk tease the vehicle’s owners being able to play Grand Theft Auto on their dashboard, while a smaller version of Cuphead made its way into select Tesla models last September. For those wondering how some of these games will possibly work in the car, a new viral video seems to have answered their questions, with Twitter user Prolific filming a driver playing a kart racer with the steering wheel of his Tesla.

The hilarious footage has racked up 440,000 likes already and highlights just how strangely integrated gaming is with Tesla’s most advanced models. Looking at the in-built screen on the car’s dashboard, the driver plays the game by turning the steering wheel while the car is parked, maneuvering his character through wacky levels, and pressing the touchpad to use items. Evidently, the passengers are just as baffled at the crazy technology as the viewers are, with Prolific staring in shock as his friend casually plays Tesla’s version of Mario Kart with an actual steering wheel.

For those wondering, the game in question is called Beach Buggy Racing 2 and was actually implemented to Tesla’s arcade last year, with the title originally releasing on mobile in 2018. It joins a number of games on the service, however, few have managed to integrate the car itself nearly as well as the kart racer, with most needing the touch-pad or USB controllers to play. Of course, all those responding to Prolific’s video are pointing out the hilarious implications of getting too sucked into the game, with commenters joking that the driver’s going to accidentally accelerate into the parked car in front of him.

It’s not surprising to see such an interesting idea ported to Tesla cars, with Musk clearly investing a lot of time in the apps and games available on the company’s marketplace. While it seems unlikely Tesla’s going to be getting Cyberpunk 2077 or Red Dead Redemption 2 anytime soon, it’s still fun to see the car company offering entertaining extras for its wide customer base.
