Remnant: From the Ashes adds firearms and gunplay to the familiar Dark Souls formula, with customizable character progression, rechargeable health restoration items, and enemies that respawn each time a checkpoint is activated. In addition to becoming a freebie on Epic’s storefront, Remnant also received its Subject 2923 DLC expansion yesterday, adding new weaponry, trinkets, armor sets, and new zones to explore with original enemies, making the free offer an ideal time to sample the game.
The official Remnant Twitter account revealed that the title has been downloaded over 10 million times since it was freely released on the Epic Games Storefront last week. Those numbers are a major victory for a title with a middle-weight development budget, but they don’t come as a complete surprise. Remnant has been well-reviewed since its release one year ago, and its steady stream of content updates and fixes have helped build positive word of mouth among shooter and Souls-like fans alike.
